Sell Your Car FAQ's

YOUR GUIDE TO SELL YOUR OLD CAR TO SHACKS

When it’s time to go car shopping, the first thing you usually have to deal with is your old car! This page is your guide to selling your old car to Shacks Used Cars.

WHY SELL TO US?

Sure, while private sales are often a good option, they can take a lot of time and rigmarole.

For a start, you can’t sell your car when it suits you – only when it suits some buyer. And then there’s all the running around and sorting out paperwork. There’s change of:

  • Ownership forms
  • Registration transfers
  • Insurance forms
  • Receipts
  • And more.

That’s not the case with a used car dealer who’ll be there to do it all as they help you sell your car and perhaps trade to something newer, better, bigger or just more suitable at the same time.

AT SHACKS, WE MAKE SELLING OR TRADING IN YOUR USED CAR SIMPLE

  1. Call to arrange an appointment or just drive your car to our Fremantle or Rockingham locations.
  2. An expert car dealer will be there to discuss matters with you and make a no-pressure estimate on your car’s cash or trade-in value.
  3. When you both come to an agreement, we can sort out all the paperwork and make the deal happen then and there.
  4. If you’re trading in, you could be driving off in your next car within an hour.
  5. If it’s a straight-up sale, the cash will be in your pocket or the funds already on their way to your account.

Selling a used car isn’t simple, but Shacks Used Cars makes it simple for you by handling the complexities!

There are still many questions that you’ll want to ask. Let’s look at a few of the more common ones.

SELLING YOUR CAR TO A DEALER – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I sell my car to Shacks?

A: Simply call us to organise an appointment, or just turn up with your car. A used vehicle expert will be with you soon.

Q: How much is my car worth?

A: It’s no secret a car’s value decreases with time and mileage. However, there’s more to this trend than you’d think. Try our handy online used car valuation calculator for a guide on what your vehicle is worth. You can also bring your car in to our Fremantle or Rockingham locations for a tailored in-person valuation from one of our experts.

Q: Can I sell my old car for cash?

A: Yes, however please let us know in advance that you want cash so that we can arrange to have your money on hand.

Q: Should I schedule an appointment or walk in?

A: Please do, although you can do either. It’s generally better to book an appointment so we can guarantee to have the best person available, prepared and waiting to work with you. However, we’ll also welcome you if you simply walk in to our dealership.

Q: What is a VIN number and how can I find it?

A: VIN stands for ‘vehicle identification number’ and every modern car is stamped with this unique code to identify its place of manufacture, general characteristics, year built and build number. The VIN may also include letters as well as numerals. Your can find your car’s VIN on your registration certificate or under the bonnet, on the dash or on a door post.

Q: Can I sell a deceased family member’s vehicle?

A: Yes. There are, however, a few extra steps of paperwork involved. Visit the Western Australian Department of Transport’s Deceased Estates page for more details.
